1. The Tories choose a new leader
If you caught last week’s edition, you might recall my thoughts on what successful leadership looks like. Last week the Conservative Party began choosing its new leader. So now it’s probably a good time to share this useful site for checking how MPs vote. They might talk a good game – but voting records don’t lie. Visit TheyWorkForYou.
2. Everyone is a designer. Get over it.
I came across this article by Daniel Burka earlier last week and am super excited to share it. Some designers feel threatened or devalued by the concept of a developer, a sales-person, a technical being a designer. But if we take a step back and consider what a designer is, i.e. someone who identifies problems and solves them, then it becomes more acceptable that anyone in an organisation can be a designer – and this is a good thing. Check out the article here.
3. The New High Street
I can’t be the only person who is noticing a huge change in what the high street looks like. Recently I’ve been in Glasgow, London and Edinburgh city centres and one thing they all have in common is that smaller independents are on the rise whereas larger, older and more traditional businesses are struggling to find ways to stay relevant. If you’re interested in where the high street is going check out this article.
4. Scotland on holiday?
I’m lucky enough to be visiting Inver restaurant next week, and I’ll even get to stay overnight in one of their beautiful bothies. I’m so excited I thought I’d share a few more incredible (and affordable) places to stay in Scotland.
5. Weekly Inspo
One of the reasons I started this fortnightly letter is because literally everyone on my email list is fucking incredible – and I thought it would be good to introduce everyone on it. This week there are a couple of people you should know…
Briony Cullin. Super smart, kind and well-connected, Briony helps businesses nail their digital strategy and marketing. Whether you know it or not, you’ve probably engaged with a business or event because of her.
Jack and Lorna. EYI Love make some of the most incredible stationery and prints that you can imagine. The quality and care put into the products work especially well for weddings, and they also help businesses who want to produce materials that really stand out.
